Sublimation

2001

A video work that depicts the continual life cycle, the cast of my head is made from bone-dry clay and immersed into a tank of water and allowed to dissolve in real time. The object changes from one form to another, from a head to a landscape, however their exists in the tank all the materials to remake the original head, that of clay and water. This process continually repeats itself on the video, representing the basic human desire to overturn the reality of death. It reminds us that we are a product of the earth and evolution, and ultimately we return to it.
